Varnicline nasal spray improves bilateral tear production
The tear system in our eyes plays a very important role in maintaining normal vision and preserving eye function over the years. When the mechanism that produces tears is damaged, the eyes tend to dry out, burning sensations appear, followed by a lot of itching. Overworking the eyes eventually leads to the development of inflammation and even irreversible damage. Thanks to a new spray, it is possible to improve the activity of tear production in the eyes and prevent diseases and complications that are difficult to cure.
Varnicline nasal spray improves bilateral tear production in dry eye disease
The phenomenon of dry eyes is among the distressing phenomena that interfere with daily functioning. Those who suffer from the problem, discover that massive washing of the eyes is not only not helpful – but in many cases is also significantly harmful and contributes to worsening the condition.
Thanks to a new spray developed following research, you can enjoy significant relief. Varnicline solution helps patients with dry eyes and results in a significant increase in the production of tears in the eyes. As part of the study, it was found that the spray named OC-01 brings improvement among the study participants, but also and not least, among those who did not take the spray as part of the study – at more moderate levels.
891 patients who were randomized and received different doses of the spray participated in the study. The participants were divided into two: the first group received OC-01 0.03 mg while the second group received OC-01 0.06 mg. Each nostril was checked twice a day for 28 days in the experiments.
The researchers looked at the average change from baseline and the percentage of eyes that showed an improvement in tear production. They evaluated the results based on a comparison between the tear production of the eyes of the participants in the study and between the eyes of members of a control group who did not participate. The researchers also used eye scores of dryness to measure the changes in the ability to produce tears.
The average improvement in tear production according to the STS index from baseline to day 28 of the study was 10.4 mm in the 0.03 mg group, 10.5 mm in the 0.06 mg group, and 4.9 mm In the control group, in the eyes of subjects who did not participate in the study, the average improvement in STS was 8.7 mm, 8.8 mm, and 2.7 mm, respectively.
Those who showed an improvement of less than 10 STS were according to the following rates: 48.1% in the 0.03 mg group, 48.4% in the 0.06 mg group and 25.9% in the control group.
The findings show that vernicline spray is effective for a wide range of dry eye problems and can be used several times a day on both sides of the eyes to achieve maximum results.
