Macular edema – one of the main dangers of diabetes

The post-modern era puts many of the diabetics in front of temptations to eat unhealthy. These situations combined with problematic genetics – all of these can pose a real risk to the body, which is dealing with huge amounts of sugar and sometimes cannot contain such large amounts that violate its natural balance.

While diabetes is often treated today using a variety of medications and different means, few diabetics pay significant attention to the condition of their eyes, and this despite the fact that a problematic eye condition can lead to blindness. Indeed, statistics show that the leading cause of blindness today is macular edema. What is macular edema? As its name is: edema that accumulates in the macula.

The macula is the central layer of the retina. And what is the grunt? The retina is the tissue in the eye responsible for transmitting information to the brain, or in other words, it is responsible for translating the light inputs that the eye receives from the sun – and turning them into nerve messages that are transmitted to the brain where they receive their interpretive meaning.

When the macula is damaged, the messages are not transmitted to the brain properly and as time passes, the vision decreases and the brain cannot "interpret" the meaning of the messages transmitted to it. In extreme cases, it becomes impossible to save the eye and all that can be done is laser surgery.

Laser treatment for macular edema

In cases of more serious disorders such as macular edema, laser treatment can fill the gap that traditional processes do not fill. Previous reports and studies in the field show that the laser treatment helped some patients who were unable to progress with injections alone. Since the technology is innovative in the world and addresses the more primitive parts of the brain – they are also factors that help to deal with diseased blood vessels that do not function properly as a result of the development of edema in the central vessels.

The meaning of this is that as long as it is possible to go to the doctor for periodic examinations – this makes it easier to avoid developing problematic symptoms in later stages. Thus, if you are diabetic, and it does not matter if it is type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, it is advisable to go to the doctor as soon as possible and find out what is the frequency of visits required in order to maintain a normal eye condition.

In this way, you will not have to reach medically problematic situations in later stages and there will be no need to perform invasive procedures. This is the only way you can be sure that you are protecting your health and your eyes.
